Ecological effectiveness of the "Tabu" marine reserves in Vanuatu.

« Establishment of management policies for certain commercially important species of reef-dwellers in Vanuatu using the technique of acoustic marking. »

The project, named EFITAV, concerns the reinforcing of management initiatives, through a study of the environmental impact of the "Tabu areas" located to the north of Effate Island in Vanuatu. The aim of the programme is to monitor the dispersion capacity of 2 locally important species (one mollusk and one fish) using the techniques of acoustic marking, in order to test the capacity of these micro-reserves to effectively sustain the resource. Three field trips were carried out in 2011 to place the markers. The filed work is now complete, and the data is currently being processed.
